The Templates panel provides means for creating and customizing Engine templates:

The Engine templates, individually configured for each Cinegy Capture Engine service, as well as for the global PCS storage are listed here. The template type (Archive or Standalone), validity information and video format is displayed for each of the configured templates.

Note
Please note that validity information is not displayed for PCS templates.

To create a new local template, select the required service on the "Templates" panel. To create a new global template in the global PCS storage, click "Global". Press the Add button, the Template Editor will be launched. The configuration groups and parameters to be set up depend on the template type chosen: Standalone or Archive.

Note
You can create as many Engine templates for each Engine service as you need to meet your capturing requirements.

Global PCS Storage

The global PCS template storage serves as a centralized database where preconfigured Standalone and Archive templates are held and can be easily accessed.

Refer to the Cinegy Process Coordination Service Manual to learn about PCS installation and database configuration.

Press the Global_storage_settings button to launch the PCS configuration form:

In the dialog box that appears, specify the machine name running Cinegy PCS service and press "OK". The templates from the specified PCS storage will appear in the "Global" section:

General Settings

Here, specify the following parameters for your recording session:

  • Name – the name of the Engine template being created/edited.

  • Clip name – the name of the clip(s) to be created during the recording session.

  • Tape name – the tape name to be created during the recording session.

  • Filename pattern – the name of the output file(s).

    For "Clip name", "Tape name" and "Filename pattern" you can use the following macros to apply naming automation:

    The specified clip name. The unsafe characters are replaced with the "-" symbol.

    The recording session start time.

    %N

    The ordinal number of the file when the recording session is set up to be split into several files.

    %O

    The ingest operator.

    The TV format.

Hovering the mouse over the info_signsign displays additional information on macros usage in a tooltip:

  • Override existing file(s) – with this option enabled, existing files having the same names will be replaced with the ones being captured during the recording session.

  • Clip auto-split – the frequency of a new clip creation during the recording session. Use this option during continuous capture sessions to avoid creating huge files, splitting them into smaller ones instead.

  • BITC (Burnt-in Timecode) enabled – select this option to overlay the timecode onto the output during the recording session.

Timecode Analyzer Settings

This parameters group allows you to specify values for analyzing timecodes received from the timecode normalizer, both in frames. Minimum values of 2 and 3 frames respectively are used by default. Maximum values are 18 and 19 frames respectively.

If inconsistency between timecodes is less than the "Maximum inconsistency" value and the number of inconsistent timecodes is less than the specified "Minimum consistency" value, the TC break is ignored, and the capture session continues.

Here is an example where the TC can be restored: 1 2 3 4 x x 7 8 x 10 11 12 13 14 15…​

In this example, timecodes are inconsistent between frames 4 - 7 and 8 - 10. In both cases, maximum inconsistency does not exceed 3 frames (7–4=3 and 10–8=2) and the number of consistent timecodes does not exceed 2. As a result, this timecode inconsistency is ignored, and the capture session continues with no TC break; the consistent timecodes are generated.

Coding Scheme Settings in Standalone Mode

The "Standalone" template type means that only media files will be created on the hard disks with no registration in MAM systems. Any number of the output streams, formats and files can be supported in standalone mode. All the encoder parameters should be set individually for each encoder and wrapper.

Video Format

The "Video Format" field indicates the Cinegy Capture Engine video format. When creating a new template or editing an existing one, the current video format can be changed by choosing the desired one from the drop-down list. The compatible codecs and wrappers will become available for the newly selected video format.

If the chosen format differs from the input TV format, the following dialog appears asking you to confirm your decision:

Please note that some that NTSC 720x486 TV formats are only supported in Standalone template configuration.

Audio

Audio channel mapping allows you to mute or map the available input audio channels into the output location, depending on the desired configuration. To start configuring audio mapping for a template, press the "Configure" button next to the "Audio" field. The following dialog will be open:

Select whether "Stereo" or "Mono" and define the required input audio channel(s) to be ingested by selecting the corresponding checkbox(es).

To map or unmap an audio channel, select or deselect the checkbox next to it. The deselected channels will be not mapped during recording session.

Press the "Add" button to add a new audio channel.

remove_audio_channel

Press this button to remove the selected channel.

Important
Please note that it is recommended to add the same number of channels configured via your Engine service Audio Settings; otherwise the template you are configuring will be invalid. The corresponding error message can be seen when hovering the mouse pointer over the invalid template: "Audio mapping has configured audio channel(s) that are not present in the engine’s configuration".

Media Codecs

Add_template

Press the "Add" button to add new video, audio and data codecs to be used by the current template for the recording session. The list with all compatible codecs will appear:

In the corresponding sections select the required video, audio and data codecs. To select several codecs within each section, click them holding the Ctrl key down or use Shift+ click to select a group of consecutive items.

Note
The list of available codecs may vary depending on the selected template video format. The audio and data codecs are only available when audio and data streams are properly configured via Cinegy Capture Manager for your Engine service.

After you select the required codecs and press "OK", they will be represented in a table view as shown below:

Some codecs have additional settings. Press "Setup" next to the corresponding codec or simply double-click its name to specify the required parameters.

clear_selected_encoders

Pressing this button will remove all encoders from the list. You will be asked to confirm your decision with the following message:

Press this button next to the corresponding encoder to remove it from the list. Alternatively, select the unnecessary encoder and hit the Del key to delete it.

Wrappers / Outputs

Add_template

Press the "Add" button to add wrappers to be used for output by the current template for the recording session. The list of all available wrappers will appear:

Here, select the required wrapper(s) from the list with the Ctrl key pressed or Shift+ click an item to select all the items between the last selected wrapper and the clicked one.

Only one wrapper type can be selected in Capture SOLO Edition mode.

After you select the required wrappers and press "OK", they will be represented in a table view as it is shown below:

All the wrappers are displayed in red until they are properly configured; do the following:

  1. Select the required wrapper from the list.

  2. Some wrappers have additional settings; press Setup_link next to the corresponding wrapper or simply double-click its name to specify the required parameters.

    Refer to the Wrapper Settings paragraph for details on video encoders configuration.
  3. Select the desired codecs from the lists of compatible video/audio/data encoders that have previously been added to the "Media Codecs" list:

  4. Press the Add_template button to specify the output location. In the "Add Output" window that appears, press the browse_button button and browse for the desired location:

    Any individual output location can be marked as "critical" meaning that the failure of this output should cause the recording session to abort. Set the "Critical output" option to mark the required location as critical output. Alternatively, this can be done directly from the "Output" panel by checking the Critical" option.

    Note
    It is possible to add several output locations for each wrapper.
Important
It is possible to define mapped drive as the output location.
Important
Only one output location can be added for a wrapper in Capture SOLO Edition mode.

Multiple wrappers with individually configured connected codec(s) can be added to each template as follows:

Press the "Edit" link next to the corresponding output location to change it, if needed. You can also edit the output location by double-clicking the output name.

remove_engine

Press this button next to the corresponding wrapper / output location to remove it from the list. Alternatively, select the unnecessary wrapper / output and hit the Del key to delete it. You will be prompted to confirm your decision.

clear_selected_encoders

Press this button to clear all the selected wrappers / output locations from the list.

Archive Templates

Archive mode is only available with Cinegy Archive Service installed and running as well as with running and properly configured Cinegy Capture Archive Adapter.

General Settings

The "General settings" configuration of an archive template is similar to that of a standalone template except for the following parameters:

  • Roll name – the name of the Roll(s) to be created during the recording session;

  • Media group – the media group to be used for the recording session (selected from the drop-down list).

    Important
    Refer to the Media Groups paragraph in the Cinegy Enterprise Manager Manual to learn about media groups, their configuration and management.

Use macros in the corresponding fields to apply naming automation.

Note
The "Timecode analyzer settings" are identical for both the standalone and the archive template types.

Metadata Settings

In the "Metadata" parameters group specify the necessary ingest metadata in the corresponding fields.

The list of metadata fields depends on your database settings.

Coding Scheme Settings in Archive Mode

Here, define the Roll creation rules for your capture session choosing the appropriate parameter from the "Integration mode" drop-down list:

  • One roll – all the captured clips will be recorded into a single Roll.

  • One roll per day – all the clips captured on a particular day will be recorded into a single Roll.

  • One roll per session – all the clips captured during a particular capture session will be recorded into a single Roll.

  • One roll per TC sector – each timecode segment of the particular capture session will be recorded into a separate Roll. Each timecode break will cause a new Roll creation.

Note
If a macro is specified for the Roll name within the "General Settings" configuration group, the corresponding Roll creation rule is applied, regardless of the integration mode defined.

Define the audio type to be used for encoding audio streams. All the available audio allocations in Cinegy Desktop can be configured here. Choose between stereo and mono from the "Audio" drop-down list. Clips will have mono or stereo audio tracks depending on the audio type used for capturing. Select the "Configure" option next to the defined audio type; the "Audio Mapping" configuration dialog appears:

Here, the needed number of audio allocation channels can be configured independently, regardless of the audio channels number configured for your Engine service. For each audio channel it is possible to define its type or disable it by selecting "Not in use" option.

In mono audio mode it is possible to set the channels to be captured and define the type they will be captured to – mono, stereo or 5.1 SMPTE or 5.1 Film. For this, right-click anywhere within the channels table and select the desired type:

Having specified the audio channel types for your capture session, press "OK" to apply the changes.

Note
Separate sets of encoders are available for mono and stereo audio types.
Note
The Material Exchange Format (MXF) wrapper is available only for mono audio encoding type.

Multiple quality levels can be captured concurrently in one session. The typical qualities are:

  • High

  • Medium

  • Low

  • Web

Select the desired media quality, choose the required video and audio encoders, and define their configuration. Having chosen the quality, select the "Critical target" checkbox to set both video and audio as critical outputs for the recording session. In case of video or audio failure, the whole recording session fails as well.

Go to the "Additional outputs" tab to define additional output formats supported in your template:

The outputs configuration is similar to that one described in the Coding Scheme Settings in Standalone Mode paragraph.
Note
Note that the archive outputs are captured into the target folders and registered in the Cinegy Archive database, while additional outputs are written as standalone files (with no Cinegy Archive registration).

Additional output configuration allows you to preserve the configured archive media quality for the file wrapper. To select the required quality, use the drop-down list of compatible video/audio/data encoders:

The selected quality will be created for the media ingested in the additional output location.

Note
Please note that only configured via "Archive" tab qualities are available for selection. When trying to remove the selected quality via "Archive" tab, a warning message appears.

OK_cancel_button

Having specified all the necessary capture session parameters, press the "OK" button to finish the template creation process. To close Template Editor without changes, press the "Cancel" button.

Templates Management

Exporting and Importing

Use the "Export template" button to save the selected template in the *.TSchema or *.xml file formats. The following dialog box appears, asking you to define the location where your template will be stored:

It is also possible to import several templates at once.

Import_button

Use the "Import template" button to load the previously saved template in the *.TSchema or *.xml file formats to the currently selected Capture Service. The following dialog box appears asking you to select the file to be imported:

Copying

To copy a template within the same or to another Engine service, use the "Copy to" context menu command. Similarly the preconfigured templates from the global PCS storage can be copied to the Engine service(s). The Engine templates can also be copied to the global PCS storage:

Alternatively, use simple drag-and-drop holding the Ctrl key down or the usual key combinations Ctrl+C to copy and Ctrl+V to paste the copied template.

It is also possible to copy multiple templates at a time.

Moving

To move a template to another Engine service or to the global PCS storage, use simple drag-and-drop. Alternatively, use the common Ctrl+X and Ctrl+V key combinations.

Editing

You can edit any selected template by pressing the "Edit template" button or using the "Edit" context menu command:

Renaming

In order to rename a template, select it and press the F2 key or simply double-click it on the Templates panel; then enter a new name in the corresponding field.

Deleting

You can remove any selected template (or several templates) by pressing the "Remove" button or by selecting the "Delete" command from the context menu:

Alternatively, select the template and hit the Delete key.

You will be prompted to confirm the deletion.

Setting Default Template

It is possible to set the default template, which will be selected in the Capture Control application on its first start. The first and only valid template configured for the engine automatically becomes a default one.

Note
This option is not available for PCS templates.

To set a default template, right-click the needed template and select the "Set as default" command from the context menu:

Selecting Template for Recording Session

To select a template that will be used for the recording session, right-click the needed template and choose "Select" command from the context menu:

Once the template is selected, its name is displayed in bold.

The PCS templates can be selected for the recording session for an Engine service by using the "Select for" command from the context menu:

Note
This option is available for the PCS templates using the same input video format as defined for the Engine service.

Validation

All the templates of the Engine services are automatically checked for validity and have a subsequent indication (valid and invalid):

Hover the mouse pointer over the "Invalid" indicator to display the tooltip describing a problem.

Note
Archive templates are not supported in Capture SOLO Edition mode. Previously created valid Archive templates are displayed as "Invalid". A dedicated message is displayed when hovering a mouse pointer over the invalid template.
