Watch Folder Use
Reading time ~5 minutes
This article describes the most common workflows using Cinegy Convert Watch Folders:
Import to Cinegy Archive
This workflow allows users to convert media files to Rolls in the Cinegy Archive database.
Note
|
Cinegy Convert components require a valid established connection to the Cinegy Process Coordination Service and Cinegy Convert Agent Manager Service running as a Windows service. |
To prepare a workflow for the automatic import of media files into Cinegy Archive through watch folders, follow these steps:
-
Go to the "Archive Endpoints" tab of the Cinegy Convert Watch Service configurator, then press the
+
button. In the form that appears fill in the data relating to the Cinegy Archive Service and specify the Cinegy Archive database to be used for importing materials: -
In the "Watch Folders" tab of the Cinegy Convert Watch Service configurator, press the
+
button, select the "Import media to Archive" task type, and fill in the form that appears:Here, in the "Scheme/target" field, you should choose the appropriate Cinegy Archive Ingest / Import profile created in the Cinegy Convert Profile Editor. In the "Watch folder" field specify the path to a local folder or a network share which will be monitored for media files to be imported into the Cinegy Archive database.
-
Having configured the watch folder, mark it as ready for processing:
-
Place your media file(s) into the watch folder and a new task will be created. Tasks execution is performed by local agents managed by Cinegy Convert Agent Manager and coordinated by the Cinegy Process Coordination Service. The processing could be monitored in Cinegy Convert Monitor.
To ensure that the import process was completed successfully, check for new Rolls in the Cinegy Archive database accessed from Cinegy Desktop:
Export from Cinegy Archive
This workflow allows the user to automate the repetitive export of media from Cinegy Archive into media files through Cinegy Archive job drop targets.
Note
|
This workflow requires a valid established connection to the Cinegy Process Coordination Service and to the Cinegy Archive Service, as well as the Cinegy Convert Agent Manager Service running as a Windows service. |
To prepare this workflow, follow these steps:
-
In the "Archive Endpoints" tab of the Cinegy Convert Watch Service configurator create the Cinegy Archive Service endpoint in the same way as described in the Import to Cinegy Archive paragraph.
Then press the button to create an export job drop target in the corresponding database:
-
In the "Watch Folders" tab of the Cinegy Convert Watch Service configurator press the
+
button, select the "Export media from Archive" task type, and fill in the form that appears:Here, in the "Cinegy Archive" field, press the button to set up the Cinegy Archive Service endpoint, as you did in Step 1. Then press the "Connect" button to establish the connection to the specified database.
In the "Target folder" field define the export job drop target folder configured in the previous step. In the "Scheme/target" field choose the appropriate Transcode to File profile created in the Cinegy Convert Profile Editor.
-
Having configured the watch folder, mark it as ready for processing:
-
In Cinegy Desktop place the desired Cinegy object(s), such as clips, Rolls, ClipBins, and Sequences into the predefined job drop target folder. A new export Cinegy Convert task will be created. Tasks execution is performed by local agents managed by Cinegy Convert Agent Manager and coordinated by the Cinegy Process Coordination Service. The processing could be monitored in Cinegy Convert Monitor.
To ensure that the export process is completed successfully, check for the new media files in the output location preconfigured in your Transcode to File profile:
Conform Ingest
The Cinegy Convert Watch Service allows you to organize an analog of the Conform Capturer functionality from earlier versions of Cinegy Desktop - multi-database operations to convert/render Cinegy objects, such as clips, Rolls, ClipBins or Sequences, into Rolls; in other words, you can conform a source media from Cinegy Archive to Cinegy Archive.
|
Then choose an export job drop target as described here.
-
In the "Watch Folders" tab of the Cinegy Convert Watch Service configurator create an "Export media from Archive" task, in which you should complete the configuration and then connect to the Cinegy Archive Service. Then, in the "Target folder" field, specify the export job drop target folder and in the "Scheme/target" field choose the Cinegy Archive Ingest / Import profile created in the Cinegy Convert Profile Editor:
-
Having configured the watch folder, mark it as ready for processing:
-
In Cinegy Desktop, place the Cinegy object(s), prepared for export, into the predefined job drop target folder. A new export Cinegy Convert task will be created and the new Rolls will be created in the predefined target folder in the Cinegy Archive database:
Note
|
Conform ingest is possible within a single Cinegy Archive database (when export and import profiles are configured to use the same database) and in a multi-database workflow (when export and import profiles are configured to different databases). |
